Malaysia Dependent Pass

Overseas citizens who are in Malaysia for employment or studying determinations are permitted to bring their family associates with them via the Dependent Visa for Malaysia, i.e. the Malaysian Dependent Pass. Still, not each Employment or Student Pass owner can bring their family associates to Malaysia. There are also limitations about which family associates you are permitted to bring along.

You can bring your dependents with you via a Dependent Pass Malaysia if you are:

• An Employment Pass Owner Class 1 (in a crucial part in the company and with a salary of a minimum of RM10,000 for each month).
• An Employment Pass Owner Class 2 (in an executive and specialized position in a company and with a salary between RM5,000 and RM9,999 per month).
• A Malaysia Student Pass Owner who is doing Master and PhD studies in a Malaysian educational institute.

Owners of an Employment Pass Class 3, Temporary Employment Pass, or a Professional Visit Pass are not permitted to apply for a Dependent Pass for their family associates. Student Pass owners who are in BA studies or lower, or a linguistic school are not permitted to apply for a Dependent Pass Malaysia for their family associates.

If you are a qualified Malaysia Employment Pass owner, you can apply for a Dependent Pass Malaysia for the following family associates:

• Your lawful spouse (husband/wife)
• Children below 21 years old (biological, adopted, or stepchild)
• Dependent children nevertheless of age (if they have a physical or psychological incapacity interpreting them dependent on you)

If you desire to bring your common-law spouse, dependent parents or parents-in-law, or children over 21, you should apply for the Malaysia Long-Term Social Visit Pass.

 If you are a Student Pass bearer, you can apply for a Malaysia Dependent Pass for the following family associates:

• Your lawful spouse (husband/wife)
• Your children below 21 years old (biological, adopted, or stepchild)
• Dependent children nonetheless of age (if they have a physical or psychological infirmity interpreting them dependent on you)
• Your parents

The resulting documents are needed for a Malaysia Dependent Pass appeal:

• Two new passport size photos of the claimant
• Photocopy of all the pages of your family associates’ passports, counting the cover, personal info sheets, any visas you have obtained as well as the blank pages.
  • The passport should be legal for a minimum of one year from the planned date of arrival in Malaysia.
• Evidence of family relationship, such as:
  • Wedding certificate, for lawful spouses
  • Birth credential for children/parents
  • Guardianship letter for the child (if appropriate)
  • Adoption documents for the child (if appropriate)
• Photocopy of your Employment Pass or Student Pass
• Payment of the Dependent’s Pass compensated by a bank to the Immigration Department
• Two copies of the Malaysian visa appeal forms (IMM.12 and IMM.38)
• Personal bond (for Student Pass owners)
• A confirmation Letter from the educational organization (for Student Pass owners)

The copies of the wedding and birth certificates you submit have to be interpreted into English if they are not by now. The translations have to be completed by either the Embassy of your family associates’ nation in Malaysia or the Institut Terjemahan Buku Malaysia. Furthermore, the documents should be endorsed as a Certified True Copy (CTC) by the Embassy of your family associates’ nation in Malaysia or the Malaysian Embassy in your family associates’ nation.

If you are an Employment Pass owner, you can apply for the Malaysia Dependent Pass either:

• Along with your Employment Pass Appeal
• After your Employment Pass has been permitted and you are in Malaysia

You or your employer should submit the appeal via the Immigration Department of Malaysia. If you are a Student Pass bearer, you can only apply for a Malaysian Dependent Pass only after your Student Pass has been delivered. Your educational organization is responsible for managing the Malaysia Dependent Pass appeal on your behalf.

Prior to your dependents can travel to Malaysia, the Immigration Department of Malaysia should provide them with a Visa Approval Letter (VAL). Your family associates should then use the VAL to apply for a Malaysia Visa with Reference in the closest Malaysian Embassy. The Malaysian government provides Visas with Reference to overseas citizens who want to come in the state for determinations other than tourism or short-term social visits.

Next, your family associates reach in Malaysia, and they should submit their passports to the Immigration Department of Malaysia so they can get the Malaysia Dependent Pass stamp. Check with your school or proprietor because, in many situations, it is they who manage the passport submission to get the Dependent Pass.

Your family associates will get a Dependent Pass with the same duration as your Employment Pass or Student Pass. It can be renewed in the same way as well.

Malaysia Dependent Pass owners are not permitted to work under the circumstances of the Dependent Pass. If your family associate wishes to get employed, they should change their Dependent Pass into an Employment Pass.
